03 — Instructor Development
Develop Those Who Develop Others.
The Instructor Development program is a separate and distinct pathway from Operator Development. It is designed for organizations building internal training capacity — developing personnel who will not only perform at a high standard, but teach others to do the same. The program combines advanced practical capability with structured teaching methodology. Practical modules follow ARCANE’s discipline standards, including TCCC (NAEMT) for tactical medicine.
The Core Question
Both questions must be answered, because this is a complete development program that treats practical capability and instructional competency as equally important.
What Instructor Development Covers
- Advanced capability across different disciplines
- Instructional methodology and lesson planning
- Demonstration standards and coaching technique
- Feedback delivery and student assessment
- Error identification and corrective instruction
Theoretical and practical testing takes place every week, so we assess both performance and instruction throughout the instructor development program.
A Typical Instructor Development Cycle
The following represents a typical 1–5 week cycle of the instructor development program. However, we determine the exact content, sequence, and emphasis in consultation with your organization. In other words, this is the development logic, not a fixed curriculum. We assess both practical performance and instructional competency every week.
Week 1 — Assessment, Standardization & Advanced Skills Development
First, we assess participants against ARCANE’s standards, both as performers and as instructors, and establish their baseline capability. We identify existing instructional habits and begin to standardize technique and terminology. Then development moves into advanced practical work across the agreed disciplines, because instructors must perform at a level that supports credible instruction. We reinforce technical consistency, and instructional observation begins: participants observe and analyze structured teaching. In addition, we assess theory and practice throughout.
Week 2 — Instructional Methodology
Next comes a structured introduction to ARCANE’s instructional framework: lesson planning, demonstration standards, coaching technique, and feedback delivery. Participants begin to deliver structured instruction under observation, and we introduce error identification and corrective instruction. As always, we assess theory and practice weekly.
Week 3 — Applied Instruction
In week three, participants deliver instruction across the agreed disciplines and apply coaching, feedback, and student assessment in practice. We evaluate their performance under observation, and they develop and refine corrective instruction. Weekly assessment continues.
Week 4 — Instructor Integration
Then participants manage complete instructional sequences, from lesson planning through delivery, assessment, and debrief. We introduce complex scenarios, and where applicable, participants perform and instruct at the same time. Weekly assessment continues.
Week 5 — Validation & Development
Finally, we assess both practical performance and instructional competency, give individual feedback and development recommendations, and certify where applicable. We also provide the organization with recommendations for continued instructor development.
Week 5 may be adapted or consolidated depending on the agreed program length and client requirements.
